It is common for infants and children to have spinal misalignments due to a variety of reasons including: intrauterine positioning, birthing process, and development stages. Chiropractic care for peds is not like adult adjustments and is extremely gentle and helps further balance their growing body’s. It has been shown to help with plagiocephaly, ear infections, colic, acid reflux, and latching difficulties. Infants and children usually respond quickly to care, and often have a wonderful night's sleep and a big bowel movement after their appointments.
Misalignments can present as:
· Feeding difficulties
· Poor Latch
· Ear infection
· Respiratory infections
· Colic
· Inability to turn head both ways
· Developing a flat spot (plagiocephaly)
· Acid reflux
· Constipation
· Sleep issues
Prenatal
Chiropractic care is important during pregnancy because the body is rapidly changing and adapting. Baby is growing, relaxin hormone is flowing as mom and baby are both getting ready for delivery. With these changes many aches and pains can appear. Chiropractic care can help lessen or even eliminate these discomforts during pregnancy. Chiropractic care is also important during pregnancy to ensure the pelvis is in correct alignment, giving baby the best chance possible to get into the correct position for a smooth delivery.
Common symptoms during pregnancy that chiropractic can help with:
· Low back pain
· Round ligament pain
· Breech presentation
· Rib pain
· Pubic bone pain
· Headaches
· Carpal tunnel symptoms
· Sciatic pain
· Acid reflux
· Diastasis recti
· Heartburn
Did you know, first time moms who receive chiropractic care during pregnancy have a 25% faster delivery on average than moms who don’t. Second time or greater have a 31% faster delivery. Source Dr. Cara L. Borggren
Postnatal
Many moms know how important chiropractic care is during pregnancy, but many don’t know they need adjustments after delivery as well. Mom just went through an incredible journey in creating, growing, laboring, and delivering a wonderful human into this world. Mom’s body has changed immensely throughout this process and is still recovering well after delivery.
The body is responding to not carrying the weight of a baby and is readjusting to a new center of gravity. It also has an increased demand from being hunched over for feeding, holding, bouncing, rocking, and swaying baby. Hormonal changes are also taking place along with these physical changes. Addressing these changes is important for the healing process and enjoying this time with baby.
Most common postpartum conditions:
· Upper back and neck pain
· Low back pain
· Pubic bone pain
· Diastasis recti
· Recovery from C-section
· Wrist, shoulder, elbow pain
· Ankle, knee, hip pain
· Heartburn
· Nervous system imbalances
Postpartum adjustments are many times moms favorite adjustment!
Baby is also more than welcome to join this appointment and hang out
while mom is having some much needed body work.
