Bio

I attended Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD. During college I would come home for the summers to earn and save money through various manual labor jobs. During one of these summer jobs, I injured my back, and knew chiropractic would be there to help me get out of pain and back to work as soon as possible. This seemed obvious to me, but I was surprised by how many people did not know about chiropractic at all, or how straightforward and efficient it is in treating common musculo-skeletal injuries that are all too common in the workplace. After acquiring a B.S. in Biology from Northern, I continued to Northwestern Health Sciences University in Bloomington, MN, where I received my Doctor of Chiropractic degree. While at Northwestern, I discovered they also offered additional education in occupational health, and acquired my Chiropractic On-Site Health and Safety Certificate. This training has equipped me with the expertise to help businesses large and small reduce unnecessary workplace injuries through preventative strategies including ergonomic evaluations and alterations, for everyone from the seated worker to the manual laborer. I also learned specific chiropractic strategies that help me provide the most effective and efficient care available to get injured workers healthy again. I continue to expand my knowledge in workplace health to this day, and am currently enrolled in the Chiropractic Occupational Health and Applied Ergonomics Postgraduate Diplomate program.

Chiropractic Care

General

General Chiropractic care is our bread and butter. We love making people feel better, whether you are experiencing headaches, low back pain, or general aches and pains we want to help.

Pediatric

It is common for infants and children to have spinal misalignments due to a variety of reasons including: intrauterine positioning, birthing process, and development stages. Chiropractic care for peds is not like adult adjustments and is extremely gentle and helps further balance their growing body’s. It has been shown to help with plagiocephaly, ear infections, colic, acid reflux, and latching difficulties. Infants and children usually respond quickly to care, and often have a wonderful night's sleep and a big bowel movement after their appointments.

Misalignments can present as:

· Feeding difficulties

· Poor Latch

· Ear infection

· Respiratory infections

· Colic

· Inability to turn head both ways

· Developing a flat spot (plagiocephaly)

· Acid reflux

· Constipation

· Sleep issues

Prenatal

Chiropractic care is important during pregnancy because the body is rapidly changing and adapting. Baby is growing, relaxin hormone is flowing as mom and baby are both getting ready for delivery. With these changes many aches and pains can appear. Chiropractic care can help lessen or even eliminate these discomforts during pregnancy. Chiropractic care is also important during pregnancy to ensure the pelvis is in correct alignment, giving baby the best chance possible to get into the correct position for a smooth delivery.

Common symptoms during pregnancy that chiropractic can help with:

· Low back pain

· Round ligament pain

· Breech presentation

· Rib pain

· Pubic bone pain

· Headaches

· Carpal tunnel symptoms

· Sciatic pain

· Acid reflux

· Diastasis recti

· Heartburn

Did you know, first time moms who receive chiropractic care during pregnancy have a 25% faster delivery on average than moms who don’t. Second time or greater have a 31% faster delivery. Source Dr. Cara L. Borggren

Postnatal

Many moms know how important chiropractic care is during pregnancy, but many don’t know they need adjustments after delivery as well. Mom just went through an incredible journey in creating, growing, laboring, and delivering a wonderful human into this world. Mom’s body has changed immensely throughout this process and is still recovering well after delivery.

The body is responding to not carrying the weight of a baby and is readjusting to a new center of gravity. It also has an increased demand from being hunched over for feeding, holding, bouncing, rocking, and swaying baby. Hormonal changes are also taking place along with these physical changes. Addressing these changes is important for the healing process and enjoying this time with baby.

Most common postpartum conditions:

· Upper back and neck pain

· Low back pain

· Pubic bone pain

· Diastasis recti

· Recovery from C-section

· Wrist, shoulder, elbow pain

· Ankle, knee, hip pain

· Heartburn

· Nervous system imbalances

Postpartum adjustments are many times moms favorite adjustment!

Baby is also more than welcome to join this appointment and hang out

while mom is having some much needed body work.

Specialty Care

Infant Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle technique that works with the body's fascia, connective tissue, and the pumping motion of the cerebrospinal fluid to help improve function of the central nervous system and asymmetry in the body. This form of care is great for newborns and children because it is light touch and can help with plagiocephaly, torticollis, feeding difficulties, tongue and lip ties, such retraining after a revision, and overall hypertonicity. These appointments also pair nicely with chiropractic care.

Common conditions treated by CST:

· Plagiocephaly

· Torticollis

· Tongue and lip ties

· Feeding difficulties

· General hypertonicity and arching

Spinning Babies®

"Spinning Babies® is an approach to optimize the physical relationship between the bodies of the mother and baby for the easing of childbirth. Spinning Babies is a new paradigm that takes clues from baby’s position and station for natural, physiological solutions."

Spinning Babies® packages and appointments are all uniquely designed to meet you at your stage of pregnancy and take you through delivery and beyond. Appointments will start with an assessment of the whole body to determine which Spinning Babies® and/or Chiropractic techniques would best benefit you and your pregnancy. Appointments will include:

Soft tissue work - helps soften tight regions of the body that may be affecting the position of the pelvis, uterus, baby, and/or creating pain.

Body balancing - creates symmetry throughout the body. Facial releases - allows all regions to flow smoothly on one another.

At-home techniques - can performed between appointments to help the body hold all the important work that was accomplished with each treatment.

Chiropractic care is included in the packages and is strongly encouraged. Chiropractic care ensures proper nerve function which allows you body to function how it is designed, especially during pregnancy and delivery. Specific chiropractic techniques also aid in keeping the pelvis in proper alignment to encourage correct baby positioning. Please contact Dr. Abby Bachmeier or Blooma for package options.

Graston

“Graston Technique® (GT) is a unique, evidence-based form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization that enables clinicians to effectively and efficiently address soft tissue lesions and fascial restrictions resulting in improved patient outcomes.GT uses specially designed stainless steel instruments with unique treatment edges and angles to deliver an effective means of manual therapy. The use of GT instruments, when combined with appropriate therapeutic exercise, leads to the restoration of pain-free movement and function. The instruments are also used diagnostically to assess the kinetic chain, in an efficient manner using the principles of regional interdependence.” Source https://grastontechnique.com/Clinicians/Resources/

Kinesio Taping

Kineso taping can help with a variety of different concerns. Working with the facial and lymphatic systems it can help increase healing time of injuries, support weakend regions of the body, and improve tissue function. This is especially great for sport injuries and for pregnancy.

Bio

Dr. Abby Bachmeier grew up in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. She studied Biology at University Wisconsin-River Falls, where she was a competitive swimmer and team captain. Throughout her swim career Dr. Abby experienced many different injuries and was told multiple times to hang up her goggles and shoulder surgery would be inevitable. Through chiropractic care she was not only able to avoid surgery, she was able to swim 4 collegiate seasons. This different approach to healing is what led Dr. Abby to chiropractic school, and one of the reasons she loves working with athletes. Dr. Abby’s passion for reproductive health started when she was a small child. Discovering that a person's body could grow a baby amazed her. After that moment she wanted to learn more about this process and ultimately is what led her to serve within the birth community. Dr. Abby is skilled in Webster Technique, certified in infant Craniosacral Therapy, is a Spinning Babies® Aware Practitioner, and works with diastasis recti and c-section scars. She is also trained in many kinesio taping techniques, especially ones that help support a birth giver during and after pregnancy. Her practice is built around serving pregnant, and/or postpartum people, infants, and adolescent age children. Dr. Abby’s goal is to provide individualized care to keep the body balanced and functioning properly throughout any stage of life.
